Douglas Dyment is a Texas-based artist originally from California. He earned his BA in Art, in painting and printmaking, from San Diego State University. For years he painted between full-time retail jobs, and his career grew separately from his art. He works in acrylics on watercolor paper, sometimes with pastel crayons. His process is pure abstraction: pouring paint, letting it drip, wiping it back, and repeating, building layers until shapes appear. There is no set subject, so each viewer brings their own meaning. His paintings are in private collections across the country, including New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Paso Robles, Dallas, Miami, and Nashville, and in Seoul, Korea.
This painting was started in late 2014 and completely reworked in 2015. The yellow shapes contrast against the dark blue. There is a thrusting of shapes into the composition.
